Are all Cypriots in the UK Greek Cypriots, Mr Odysseos?
It seems that Odysseas N. Odysseos thinks that all UK Cypriots are Greek Cypriots and Orthodox Christians, if we go by a tweet he posted recently. Let’s see who is Odysseas N. Odysseos and why what he thinks and posts on Twitter can be a problem for us and for Cyprus.
This is a recent tweet by Odysseas N. Odysseos. Who is Odysseas N. Odysseos? For those who are not aware, Mr Odysseos is the Consul General of the Republic of Cyprus in the UK.
With due respect to His Eminence, is the Archbishop of the Greek Orthodox Church in the UK “the spiritual leader of our 300K strong proud & vibrant UK Cypriot community” in this country?
Are all UK Cypriots, Greek Orthodox Christians? Are all UK Cypriots Greek Cypriots? Is that the view of a consul general of the Republic of Cyprus?
Bearing in mind that the Greek Orthodox Archbishop of the UK is not merely the archbishop of the UK Greek Cypriots. He is appointed by the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople and he is the spiritual leader of all UK Orthodox Christians.
There is nothing wrong with the Consul General of the Republic of Cyprus meeting the Archbishop of Thyateira and Great Britain or any other religious leader, as long as he uses the right language in his statements.
He must speak as a consul general of the Republic of Cyprus, which is a multicultural country, with Greek Cypriots, Turkish Cypriots, Armenians, Maronites and others.
Ersin Tatar, and all those in North Cyprus who have become pawns of the Erdogan regime and demand a “two state” solution, refer to the Republic of Cyprus as the “Greek Cypriot administration”. Are you trying to prove them right Mr Odysseos?
Occupation or not and whether they live in the North or in the area still controlled by the RoC, all Turkish Cypriots are still citizens of Cyprus and, therefore, also citizens of the European Union, and you must respect them as such Mr Odysseos.
This is the right way to serve the interests of Cyprus in the UK and internationally, to delegitimize foreign occupation and to strengthen the resolve of all Cypriots for reunification on the basis of a BBF solution
i agree with the cricism brought forward by this article. To add to this, I can state this: firstly, It is known by all that TCs not of Orthodoz faith. secondly and more importantly with the 1959 London-Zurich agreements and with the 1960 constitution (regardless of the troubles hppened and continues today) TC Community are are one of the two main communities that are granted independence and the sovereign powers on the soil of cyprus. For the High commissioner To imply that all Cypriots are Greek Orthodox Cypriot so Republic of Cyprus has only GC population, gives Turkey and Mr Tatar to act to create a territory on for the Turkish speaking cypriots and keep their troops in cyprus so defend them. I do not say this is a scandalous statement, because this is the general approach/policy towards the TCs continually , which denies their existence, and their political rights on the island of Cyprus
